How to convince your boss (or even yourself) that Business Journaling is truly worth the investment
Over the last months, I’ve been attending a couple of conferences with my talks and workshops around ‘somehow structured written (self-)reflection techniques’ (a.k.a. Business Journaling).
Of course I did present some of the relations of Business Journaling to Systems Thinking, development of teams and organizations as well as stress and coping with stress.
Still a lot of people were (rightfully) asking:
Cosima, that is all nice and such… but: how do I convince my boss that Business Journaling is worth the investment?
Yes, Business Journaling is an investment in terms of money and/or time. Such an investment could look like e.g.:
booking a virtual team workshop or inspirational talk for your event
running a facilitated internal Community of Practice (CoP) every 2-4 weeks
(e.g. guided and inspired by the ‘where & how’ introductory post [1])the usual combination (= a talk / starter workshop & then a regular CoP)
putting a fraction of your worktime into regular written (self-)reflection of your work(ing self).
So I distilled my years long experience into a nice little story context called The “Secrets” of Business Journaling. You can use parts of it as a brief pitch for convincing your boss (or: yourself).
Nine (secret) benefits of Business Journaling
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be delivering 3x3 of those “secret” main benefits of Business Journaling to you.
Maybe they are not truly secret as in “nobody knows about them”, but often they are very hard to touch or to grasp if you haven’t experienced it yourself [2]… and sometimes the benefits of Business Journaling are hard to keep going [3].
The intro of the story will already be published this Friday - so subscribe today!
I am already excited about hearing your thoughts on the “secrets”, your experiences with Business Journaling so far and all the beautiful new questions that may arise. 🙂

I keep calling this combination Business Journaling as for many folks it still seems unimaginable to use a journal (a paper diary!) in a work context. It all started with pre-print journaling and for over 4 years I am into a Bullet Journaling inspired approach now…
